Troubleshooting

Overwolf is running but is not hooking Rust.

Open Overwolf, go to Overlay and Hotkeys, and make sure the Rust toggle is enabled. Overwolf enables overlays per game, and Rust is not always on by default.

Open the NVIDIA app, turn the overlay off, then turn it back on.

The overlay reports itself as available slightly before it is actually ready, and toggling forces it to re-register.

1. The overlay app is running, and was running before you started the loader.
2. The loader was run as administrator.
3. You are actually in the lobby, not on a loading screen.
4. You are on an official Windows image. Modified builds such as Ghost Spectre, Tiny10 or AtlasOS will not work and this is how it shows.

Work through these in order:

1. Start with a fresh loader in a new folder of its own, on a local disk.
2. Reinstall your overlay app. The NVIDIA app on NVIDIA, Overwolf on AMD. A repair is not enough, remove and reinstall.
3. Reinstall the Visual C++ and DirectX runtimes. See Runtimes and DirectX.
4. Stop Discord and Steam launching at startup. Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, go to the Startup tab, and disable both.
5. Restart and try again.

1. Check the key has not run out. Licences count from first use, not purchase, and run continuously. See Licences and keys.
2. Check your hardware has not changed, see HWID resets.
3. Check the status page.

Capture software is the usual culprit, because it is competing with the overlay for the same frames.

1. Turn off NVIDIA Game Capture, or AMD Radeon ReLive and Instant Replay.
2. Cap your framerate at 120 or lower.
3. Lower your graphics settings, shadows and post-processing first.
4. Close every other overlay, including Discord and GeForce.
