Ancient loader
Overlay setup
Ancient draws its menu through a capture overlay, so this step is not optional.
Ancient does not draw over the game directly. It borrows an overlay that is already running on your machine, which means no overlay means no menu. Three of the most common support tickets are this step done wrong.
Which overlay you use is decided by your graphics card, not by preference.
NVIDIA cards
Install the NVIDIA app from nvidia.com.
- Open the NVIDIA app.
- Go to Settings, then General.
- Turn on In-game overlay.
NVIDIA cards can use SteelSeries GG instead if you prefer, and it works the same way. AMD cards do not have that choice.
AMD cards
You must install SteelSeries GG from steelseries.com. AMD's own overlay is not supported.
- Install SteelSeries GG and sign in.
- Go to Settings, then the General section, and turn on Sonar.
- Go to the Sonar tab, then Shortcuts.
- Put
F7on Master, Volume Up.
Step 4 is not decoration. Sonar's overlay is only active once its shortcut has been used, so you press F7 once before every injection to wake it. Skip that and the loader reports that the Sonar overlay is not running.
Every session, in order
- Overlay app open and signed in. NVIDIA app, or SteelSeries GG.
- On AMD, press
F7once to wake Sonar. - Run the loader and inject.
- Launch the game.
- Press
Insertfor the menu.
If the overlay is the problem
Please launch SteelSeries Moments overlay (for GeForce)
Turn the NVIDIA overlay off and back on again, then inject once more. The overlay reports itself as available before it is actually ready, and a toggle forces it to re-register.
Please launch SteelSeries Sonar overlay (for SteelSeries)
You did not press the Sonar shortcut before injecting. Press F7 once, then inject again. If you never set the shortcut, go back to the AMD steps above.
Menus flicker, or the screen goes black in game
SteelSeries is capturing while you play, and the capture and the menu are fighting over the same surface.
Open SteelSeries GG, then Settings, Moments, Capture and sound, and turn off Allow Moments to capture while gaming.
The bind button does not respond
Reinject first, which fixes most of these. If it still does nothing, close the overlay app and start it again as administrator. An overlay running with lower privileges than the game cannot receive the key.
No menu at all after injecting
Work through these in order, because they account for nearly every report:
- The overlay app is actually running, and running as administrator.
- On AMD,
F7was pressed after the overlay started. - You are on the NVIDIA app rather than the old GeForce Experience, which cannot draw over a fullscreen game.
- You are past the loading screen and in a match or lobby, not sitting on a splash screen.
